Avebury

Every year, the Radical Anthropology Group (RAG) evening class arranges a week of camping near Marlborough, Wiltshire. Just down the road from Malborough is one of the most magical and beautiful of Neolithic monuments, Avebury Stone Circle.
The trip always co-incides with the summer solstice, when Barking Bateria have a Royal appointment, from King Arthur himself, to welcome the new sun at Stonehenge, whilst being known as the King's Drummers.

Approximately 80 - 100 adults and children come to the camp to share in a spirit of summer relaxation and celebration in a very open, chilled and outstandingly beautiful environment, to share experiences, wisdom, songs and freindship around the open fires and the canal.

As well as the group travelling to Stonehenge for the actual solstice, they also have a guided tour of the Neolithic landscape around Avebury from Lionel Sims, who has proposed a very innovative and accurate new theory about why such monuments were built, based on the idea of huge socail and environmental upheaval, which has made huge waves in both the Anthropological and Archeological communities.
